Malaysia made it to the top

There are two ways of getting publicity One: Good News Two: Bad News A friend who made a fortune in his career during the Mahathir's administration, praised the man for bringing this country Malaysia to the world stage. "It is the headline publicity which made people the world over get to know and acquaint us on the global economy bandwagon, hence creating more 'money-making' opportunities for Malaysian businessmen." My answer to him was:' You can headlines by being a hero, OR being a victim.' Getting publicity is not necessarily good for us. Little did the businessmen friend know that, two years after making his fortune, it is also the Mahathir's style of governing a country which made his business go bonkers. Or so he think. "This old man is a bloody black-hearted man, he only knows how to spend all our money and enrich his own cronies" such was his remark on TDM then. I wasn't at all surprised that this friend took a turn barely two years after passing a praise on Mahathir. Of course, he turned sour mainly because he failed in his business. With regard to headlines, what we read most frequently these days are: Police raided another drug den. Some people may read these as good news, hinting that the police are doing their jobs, having success in keeping this country clean. They failed to see the other side of every such report. Questions like: who are the criminals? Any faces for us to recognise? What follow-up action taken onto the 'druglords' after the glamourous props of the raided 'dead things'. What about the 'living things' manning the operations? In reality, Malaysia has been upstaged as a country with slack security in the eyes of the world. Every foreigner who intends to sell drugs would target a place where they feel it safest to operate, so the rate at which our police 'raid' drug dens and the rate at which our papers publish such raids, is an indication that our country is already 'vastly infested' with such activities. It may be Mahathir's pride that his efforts has finally bear fruit and attracted infinite quantities of such 'drug' investments into the country. Or, are we Malaysians the biggest consumer of 'drugs' in the world? Thanks to TDM for promoting us to number ONE.
