the malaysian business model

The Malaysian Business Model Malaysian businesses are conducted in a unique way. Unique in the sense that you can't find any elsewhere. This uniqueness is very prominent even the dumbest of any human being would be able to notice from afar. This uniqueness could all be concluded with only ONE trait. That is; they DIE eventually. More so, if that business started with much aplomp and hoohah. Meaning, the bigger they are, the faster they die. Want an example? We can use the Bank Bumiputra. It was BIG, STRONG and GLAMOROUS. Ya, it died. Then we have Bank Bumiputra-Commerce. Then it died TOO. And Now, CIMB is also heading towards the same destination? NO? what with a yearly financial support of 2billion ringgit from the BadNotorious federal government, I don't see the bank going anywhere. Come a time when the CEO ceased to be a brother of the Malaysian PM, the situation will be all the more obvious. Another example? The Renong group was cited to be Malaysia's biggest conglomerate group. It died at the height of its fame. We need not delve into the reasons of it's death, we only need to know that Malaysian big businesses are all cursed with 'EVENTUAL and abrupt' death. Why do these businesses DIE? well i do not need a doctorate to analyse them. BUT my two cents' worth here is probably more valuable than the failure examples below. There was once a glamourous launching of a resort living premise on the Pangkor Laut Island. The marketing endeavour then was targeted at making that resort one of the most exclusive and UP-market resort in Malaysia, aimed only at the rich and famous. That means, you other POOR and moneyless people of Malaysia, DON't you even dare think of getting near this prestigious resort for only the RICH. Well, then not long after, they remarketed the chalets (in reality wooden houses on stilts) a rung lower, so as to capture the middle class. BUT then Malaysia is not like the US, we do not have that many people with the money to splash. Most of the working population in Malaysia are all busy (everyday) looking for MONEY and MONEY alone. So they never have much time to spend the MONER they earned. And so the idea of an exclusive resort for the rich and famous, JUST DIED. Now they are making a comeback, trying to attract the grassroots Malaysian public to patronise. WHY? the very POOR people they previously discriminated away from, has now become their prospect as a saviour to their 'PRESTIGIOUS" business project. True enough, How many rich and famous people can you find in Malaysia? BY way of the uncountable failed 'LUXURIOUS, UPmarket" shopping complexes and hotel projects here, NOT MANY. Dilution of immigrants from poorer countries into Malaysia, will make the average buying power of Malaysians even lower. So, more upmarkets and glamours are bound to fall.
