I often get amazed by kids who loved japanese Sushi. Especially those who never love to eat rice, BUT when it comes to sushi, they crave the food like crazy. Another mamazement comes from the fact that The Japanese sushi can become such a 'glamour delicacy', so much so that a Japanese restaurant can fetch premium premium prices for the food they serve. The same could not be said for our Malaysian 'Nasi Lemak'. If only we could also do justice to the nasilemak, and make the Japanese kids go crazy over it like our kids do to the sushi. BUT NO, we can't do that. the reasons could well be explained below: Those days, we used to salivate over bananaleaf packed nasilemak. There need not be any expensive salmon, or cuttlefish or eel in it, BUT we do love the nasilemak very much. NOW, the nasilemak is no more like it used ot be then. 1. The don't use banaleaf to pack the nasilemak anymore. 2. They don't peel the ikan bilis properly anymore. Now, even in air-conditioned restaurants where they charge up to RM20 for a plate of nasilemak, they give you dark-fried ikan bilis that are mixed with ikanbilis heads and ikanbilis shit. 3. The freid chicken that comes with your usual plate of nasilemak are mostly fried with what we call "thousand-year-oil", cooking oil that have been used over and over again. That's the reason , whatever they fry in the oil, always come out BLACK. 4. The rice they used is also non-comparable to what japanese restaurants used for their sushi. It's is no wonder, our nasilemak can never be a dish to fetch premium prices. I do not know about other people, BUT, ikanbilis shit and 'thousand-yr-oil fried chicken' is certainly not for me.
only home fried chicken gives you good taste.
yummy, except no bananaleaf...
see what I mean by good ikanbilis? no shit in sight.
