You Have it, You DON'T Have it

You have it, You don't have it A few mornings ago, my in-laws came visiting, and we had breakfast together. They brought along two of my nephews (primary students). During the course of the meals, F-I-L said the new generation kids are all very blissful today, they can choose what to eat, what not to eat. He also recalled the same old 'tone', stating that when he was a kid, family members have to fight for the chicken drumsticks. True enough, when times are a-changing, you can't compare an eye for an eye. Those days, bean curds and salted fishes (in other words, preserved food) were the only food for the poor. The rich then always have FRESH fishes, meat, fruits on their tables. Now that the rich have tasted ENOUGH of the fresh things, their tastebuds got FED UP with all the goodies they HAD. In an odyssey for experiencing NEW, EXOTICs, these FED UP tastebuds delve into uncharted boundaries --- food of the poor. Then they found that 'preserved' (processed) food could be termed with two better sounding words --- 'Value added'. And they drove into the processed world with gusto. NOW WHAT? those foods of the poor have all become expensive food. And fresh fruits, meat and veges are CHEAP. Back to the breakfast, F-I-L just said they have to fight over the chicken drumsticks, that's because families only slaughter the chicken on festive days, BUT now, my nephews have to be coaxed (and bribed) into eating the same old drumstick. The father have to say these:" Quickly finish this drumstick, I'll let you play games on my iPhone". OMIGOD. That beats my mind. Somewhere in another corner of this planet, while many mourn over the misery of not having a HOME to go back to, our generations of youngsters would NOT want stay at HOME, BUT camp outside a shopping complex overnight, just to queue for an iPhone purchase. You think, 2012 EOW (End-of-World) is close? We are already there.
