I used to have this noisy neighbour who likes to stay up late and invite lots of friends to his house to play mahjong (on his front porch, mind you). They would crackle and swear till about 5am or so, then they dispersed. Talking to them courteously about our sentiments was only to be met with deaf ears.
I tried making complains to the police only to find out that the neighbour was 'abang-adik' with the police. They just drop by and the neighbour will pay some 'kopi-o' money, then the police will go away.
In revenge to my complaining, the neighbour (and his playmates) intentionally swear louder ever since.
Most of the other residents nearby were out of ideas and were having sleepless nights. Even complaints to the town council were fruitless (same old lame excuses of 'SHORT-HANDEDNESS').
Since you cannot tackle the problem using a normal channel, out of frustration, i did this:
While this guy gambles till 5am, he would be sleeping in the morning. One fine morning, I dropped my Jean-Michel Jarre music cds into the 5 cd-carousel and rack the volume to the fullest, the next thing i knew, they shifted the mahjong table indoors and behind closed doors. Swearing pitches lowered too. It worked LIKE A MIRACLE.
I bet the govt authorities wouldn't be as smart to think of such a hattrick.
